Are you a thinker or a doer? Is there a third option?
We often hear this question
Are you a thinker or a doer?
But why can’t we be both? Why must we choose one over the other?
In reality, it’s essential to embody both roles. However, I learned this quite late in my life. I was more of a thinker than a doer, which led to many of my dreams to remain just that — dreams.
Don’t get me wrong, from an outsider’s perspective, my life was successful. I held a Master’s degree, had a well-paying corporate job, and even managed to immigrate to Canada. But these achievements didn’t involve much risk. They were safe choices. My business dreams, on the other hand, remained unfulfilled because I was too busy thinking and not doing.
Moving to Canada shifted my mentality. I felt free and became more action-oriented. I continued my studies, volunteered, and built multiple businesses. It felt like I was acting without thinking. Through this process, I learned a lot and I lost a lot.
So here’s my advice:
If you’re starting out, strive to balance thinking and doing, but lean more towards action.
This approach allows for faster learning and gaining valuable experience. As you progress, gradually increase the thinking part while reducing the doing. This shift means you’re beginning to formulate solid, thoughtful plans before taking major actions.
If you agree, share this with your friends and let me know your thoughts.
